You interviewed Erik Davis! I loved his podcast when he was doing that, and I respect his speaking and writing so much. "The language of the future needs to change to make it feel new" -- I've always said this as "words wear out." I do think he's right that "humanity" will fragment into various lines at some point; I love Bruce Sterling's sci fi treatment of this in his book Schismatrix; of course, there are many others. Btw, I met some of these immortality bros (Kurzweil, Diamantis, etc) up close back when an ex of mine did the Singularity University summer program, and they are a ghoulish bunch!
